At
6 am on Friday, May 30th, 2003, Windstorm Lady Di and Debbie
welcomed the first Minglewood-bred foal into the world. Minglewood
Soldier's Joy was expected to be dressed in two white hind
socks, but the polka dots were a complete surprise!
Born
on what is still Memorial Day in Vermont, "Spike"
needed a martial-sounding name. In memory of the brave Morgan
horses who carried the Vermont Cavalry into battle during
the Civil War, he was named after a popular old bluegrass
tune, "Soldier's Joy."
A
holy terror as a suckling colt, Spike has settled down since
weaning and is taking after his wonderful sire in the deportment
department. We suspect that without mama to run and hide behind,
he realized he'd better give up his rascally ways!
At
present, Spike is for sale. $3000 to a good home. He will
start his formal training fall of 2007 at which
time his price will increase. |
